Weihnachten

Christmas

Note: this post is entirely translated from Czech by translate.google.com … can you understand it?

Christmas is – or should be – a time of meditation, meeting family and friends, reconciling. We see it in movies, it is written in magazines, mostly we have Christmas memories from childhood…

My memories of Christmas in childhood are positive. We lived in the center of Prague, but on Christmas holidays we went to the Giant Mountains for a cottage where my dad worked. We left 25.12. Early in the morning, we often carried luggage to the bus on sledges, even in Prague there was snow. I still do not understand how my mother managed to clean up and wrap up after Christmas Eve dinner… in my memories we always returned to a tidy apartment.

Perhaps we did not need what young families needed today… many “life-simplifying devices” did not exist, so we did not have to deal with them, we sewed clothes, in socialist Czechoslovakia we all basically lived as “socks”… or it seemed like that . The only choice in the shops was of the “is-not” type, and mandarins and oranges had to become queues, who could not stand the grandparents queue, often did not have fruit for children even at Christmas.

Is it nostalgia? Definitely not! I do not miss the wires one encountered whenever you wanted to see how our western neighbors lived… and if the Western capitalists were really as bad as they were in every newspaper. It was during the reign of one party and the media was censored… often auto-censored, so it was the same in all.

Pay the pan that the “Iron Curtain” has fallen and that since then we can enjoy democratic freedoms – freedom of expression and assembly. Pay the fuck that we can verify how we live on the other side of the border and we don’t have to invent unrealistic tales. Everywhere in the world, people have the same basic needs – eating, sleeping, having a roof over their heads, and having someone to talk to.

It is only a pity that we can not often agree … but that’s why Christmas is to think, stop, accept our own mistakes and forgive others … even at school we wrote on the blackboard before Christmas “Christmas is a holiday of peace, do not try our class” Jo… yeah, for the generation of my children it is prehistoric, just as for me prehistoric was the Second World War, which my parents lived and survived and I could not ask them about their experience anymore.

Have a nice Christmas!

do we think diffeently in differnt languages?

of course not from my own head ;-)

"that your mom and dad always like to have time for you,
like a flea or elephant or a porcupine has time for its
young,
that the girls would laugh and not be afraid of school and the boys alike,
that the balloons were free and that one would not be saving for the canons
and that, when you are big, life were paradise and not a dog
and that the world for three horse lengths would be farther than today "

Boření mýtů ... a význam vzdělá(vá)ní / Myth-busting ... and the importance of education

Before I get fully into my future activities, I want to comment on the difficulty of assessing people and situations based only on the assessor's own experience. As we go through different stages of development in our lives, we also differ in our origins and possibilities at different stages of our lives. Therefore, I find it absurd and abbreviated to classify a person after a first meeting. We are all influenced by the environment in our family, kindergarten, school ... when our brain forms associations, later in life functioning as a filter for present experiences.
Image result for vyvojová stadiaThese filters are usually difficult to explain to others who have been influenced since birth by the environment in another family, kindergarten, school ... or political system in the country.

Podle kognitivních neurovědců si jsme vědomi pouze asi 5 procent naší kognitivní aktivity, takže většina našich rozhodnutí, akcí, emocí a chování závisí na 95 procentech mozkové aktivity, která přesahuje naše vědomé vědomí
Vzrušující, že? Nejsme to my, ale naše podvědomí, co šlape na brzdu a my až za zatáčkou zjistíme proč.

According to cognitive neuroscientists, we are conscious of only about 5 percent of our cognitive activity, so most of our decisions, actions, emotions, and behavior depends on the 95 percent of brain activity that goes beyond our conscious awareness.
Exciting, isn't it? It is not us, but our subconscious self stepping on the brake and why we realize behind the curve.

And it is why I'm intrigued by the research of the brain, talks about brain-friendly teaching by Vera F.Birkenbihl (in German) or various Derren Brown's shows and interviews.
I may recommend some once I've listened to them and understood them ;-)

Education / Vzdělání

As a supporter of lifelong learning, I still learn in my retirement - more to limit the danger of developing Alzheimer's than to be able to use the information usefully. ;-)
Often I find that "If I had known it before, I would not have come here" (quote from the French film Buttons War from 1962) - otherwise if I had known in advance where I was heading, I'd think twice.

Does it mean I regret anything?
No, not at all. Just think I should have known better, but could I?

Just recently I came across presentations of the workshop Innovation of the classwork and the presentation of Jan Svoboda, Jiří Halda and Marek Herman
["Three brothers in a t-shirt" or how it looks when we have enough time for everything]
captived me.

For those among my family and friends who don't understand Czech I summarize main points.

Pro členy rodiny a přátele, co nerozumí česky, shrnu havní body.

There are five basic social human needs (see also Maslow's hierarchy of needs):
  • the need for space
  • the need for safety
  • the need for stimuli, care and nutrition
  • the need for support and backing
  • the need for limits

Existuje pět základních sociálních potřeb (viz též Maslowova pyramida):
  • potřeba prostoru
  • potřeba bezpečnosti
  • potřeba podnětů, péče a výživy
  • potřeba podpory a opory
  • potřeba limitů

Unsatisfied basic needs can result in aggression (manifestation of self-preservation), violence (conscious realization of something in order to hurt) and cussedness (expression of limit search).

Neuspokojené základní potřeby mohou mít za následek agresivitu (projev sebeobrany), násilí (vědomou realizaci něčeho za účelem ublížení) a schválnost (projev hledání limitů).

Unfortunately, even adults can have their basic needs unsatisfied and there is nothing worse than an immature parent without limits, behaving like teenager while being a model for own kids.

Bohužel i dospělí mohou mít své základní potřeby nespokojené a není nic horšího než když se nezralý rodič bez nastavených limitů chová jako puberťák v době, kdy by měl být modelem pro vlastní děti.

Jan Svoboda - what is important in life cannot be said with words.
