We are in it together - or are we?

Covid-19 (or the SARS-CoV-2, coronavirus, causing the illness) is with us for several months already. Thorough studies of the new virus are necessary to be able to develop the vaccine and it may take another few months or years.

Hence we – citizens of the world – should prepare for some time of insecurities and uneasiness. We don’t know, how long it will take. We know, that some will contract the disease and may die (of course everyone is hoping, that his/her relatives and friends will survive), but we also know, that as humanity we survived other outbreaks in the past and rebuilt economies after the world wars and economic crisis.

So there is a reason to be optimistic. The question now is, how to survive the time of insecurities and uneasiness. I can personally recommend lifelong learning. It helped me through bad times in my life, could help you too. Languages and communication skills are, in my humble opinion, the best choice for the future.

There are many free sources for learning languages on the internet. The advantage is, that on internet you are the only one to see your mistakes while using sites like British council. Mistakes are very useful, but sometimes misunderstood or ridiculed. Through the internet you can connect with other learners with similar interests, talk together, maybe teach them your native language. Of course, it is much easier to learn languages as a kid, but if we were not so lucky to be growing up with one of the world languages, we can use Birkenbihl method allowing us to learn foreign languages like we learned our mother tongue.

Being able to communicate and understand each other will be advantageous for everyone when we’ll need to solve together other crisis, that are under way or just around the corner. Climate change is one example.

Thank you.

(You can use Google translator to translate my post into other languages. It may set you laughing, my English is not perfect, translations are cumbersome, but hey, even the robot is still learning. ;-))
